Free Rides February 4 in Honor of Rosa Parks
Posted January 21, 2026 by Streetcar
Portland Streetcar will be free to ride Wednesday, February 4, in honor of civil rights icon Rosa Parks' birthday. We are joining our partners at TriMet and C-TRAN in commemorating her courageous stand and commitment to civil rights when she refused to give up her seat on the bus on December 1, 1955.
Her act of civil disobedience resulted in her arrest and brought national attention to the injustice of an ordinance requiring black riders to give up their seats for white people.
All TriMet bus, Max light rail, C-TRAN bus and Portland Streetcar service will be free to ride on Parks' birthday as we continue to work toward equality in transit service.
